Another bunch of questions from the newbe
I am finally working on the frame of my 1969 Zeitler and I have blasted and painted it. Looks good and will post a couple photos tomorrow. Also have the engine and the trans bolted back together after a re-ring and head clean up. Just about ready to bolt it back to the frame. I am getting the brake ...

I am heading to a swap meet this weekend and there usually are a few sets of tires there. What size should I be looking for? Thanks. Roger

Opinion on blocks
I have 2 complete 40 HP engines. Both are 1964 with the code 8 stamped on the block. Both have had cam bearings fitted. 1 is stock 10mm heads studs, the other has case savers with 8mm studs. Both cases are still uncut and don't have any wear. I also have a 1971 dual relief case that is good shape. W...

Looking for Zeitler Super Vee
If anyone has or knows of a Zeitler Super Vee in ANY condition that is for sale, please let me know. I am restoring a 69 Zeitler VEE and would like to have a FSV too. It can be anything from just a part to a complete car.

Re: 1970 Zeitler Super Vee restoration
William,
Forgot to add to my last message. If you decide to sell the Zeitler Supervee, please give me a shot at it. I would really like to have a Zeitler VEE and Supervee. Do you know of any Zeitler FSV for sale in any condition? Thanks. Roger

Re: Are there any plans for a 50th VEE party?
That is good news especially since I am in Florida and the Roebling track is not too far. 4 years and counting. Guess I better get started! Thanks. I will be watching for news.

Are there any plans for a 50th VEE party?
I figure it will take 4 years for me to get my comp license and get my car built to Vintage and passed tech so it will be close... Is the 50th Formula VEE Celebration going to be at Brazleton again?

Physical engine size
I read somewhere that the 40HP engine is narrower than the 1300-1600 due to the shorter stroke. Is the block the same width and the extra width coming from longer cylinders? Reason I am asking is I am putting a 1200 together and want to use a 1600 case but use 1200 crank, rods, pistons heads etc. Wi...

Re: Porsche 914 transaxle question
Brian,
Thanks. Thats what I was looking for. Didn't think about swingaxle vs CV. That would be a pain and if there isn't much of a gearing change over a VW box then why bother doing it. Sticking with the VW. Thanks. Roger

Re: Porsche 914 transaxle question
The early 914's (so I have been told) are 4-speeds with a mid-engine 4 cylinder VW (it is actually a type 4. The transaxle is very similar to the Type 1. It is a 4-speed and they bolt right up to a VW but the clutch/flywheel is different. Since it is a mid-engine, the ring gear is already flipped. I...

Porsche 914 transaxle question
Any advantage in running a 914 transaxle versus a VW in solo VEE? Will a VW engine bolt up? What do you do about the clutch? Thanks

RIng gear is on the side with the starter so it is flipped!!! Thanks Paul. You saved me a lot of time and work! Roger

Re: How do I tell if the ring gear is flipped
Well I think I figured ou how to do it. Please tell me if I am on the right track. Since the box is not posi, only one axle is going to move whether I turn the input shaft clockwise or counterclock-wise. In a stock rear the ring gear is on the right side as I am looking from the shift rod toward the...

How do I tell if the ring gear is flipped
I have a chance to buy a transaxle at a very good price. He says the ring gear was already flipped. If I am looking at the main shaft (where the clutch would be), which way does the shaft turn, clockwise or counterclock wise when the engine is running? Also, if I have the shift rod in neutral (I can...

Re: Front beam question
Jim, The Zeitler build manual does not say what size the bar was that came with the kit. Just says how to install it. Another person said to start with a smaller bar and go up from there so 5/8 or 11/16 sounds like a winner. The rear suspension still has the original Zbar and coil-overs. I think I w...

Re: Front beam question
I checked the Race Car Supply link and is shows 3 different sway bars. I am guessing that this is where you decide how much sway control you want based on the size of the bar. Also, I think this is where years of building experience comes in handy. Is any one of them better for a starting point unti...

Front beam question
In the Zeitler FV instruction book, they say to replace the bottom leafs with the included torsion bar. Are they talking about a THRU-BAR? Is that what goes in the bottom beam tube? thanks again. Roger

Re: Yet another Transaxle Question
Thanks Ajax.... after reading the Monoposto rules for the ba-zillionth time, I actually saw where it says TYPE 1. I guess you can put the approved gearing in the type 1 case and it is still a type 1. Also... it clearly says 61-65 so the "any transaxle" thought gets tossed too. Just about e...
