Bob Lazier

Have not been on in a long time, and was surprised to not see notice of this. One of the truly great men from a truly great racing family has been taken by the virus. We lost Bob Lazier on April 18th. Bob is the man that talked me into my first Vee in 1979. I have many great memories of racing and j...

Re: Spark Plug Recommendation

For what it's worth......AND, while this applied a few decades back, I do not know that it is the same situation today: While all of the plugs have a 14x1.25mm thread, the American made thread has a different radius on the ROOT diameter, or another way to state it is: the bottom of each thread has m...

Re: Cam Wear

Whole lot of theorizing going on here. Simple fact: It's the oil. I believe it is the EPA that is dictating the new standard because of the supposed destruction of the urea based cats. Non-race oils (which now include diesel oils) can have no more than 800 ppm of Zn or P. Vee engines need 1200 ppm o...

Re: FV future #2 wheel dimensions

Steve, As long as there was a single spec alloy rim that matched the acceleration, deceleration characteristics, and did not turn more readily than the factory (steel) rims, I see nothing wrong with allowing them also . Do you know if they would be available in the two widths that we are allowed pre...

Re: FV future #2 wheel dimensions

Steve, I hope you know by now that I have a lot of respect for your opinion. Having said that, I have to say that IMO the wheel issue could be a real Pandora's box. Obviously the rotational mass (weight) is an issue, and the more you can reduce that wt. out near the periphery the bigger the advantag...

Re: FV future #3 Transmission

Ahhh....good deal, I finally get to disagree with one. I am all for leaving it as it is. Maybe (or maybe not), having the option of at least attempting to match gearing to the different tracks is more valuable to those that live in the rarified air of a place such as Colorado, (reduced power) but I ...

Re: FV future #2 wheel dimensions

Another good topic. I personally fully support limiting the class to the existing factory style, steel wheel for the following reasons: durability, cost effectiveness, uniformity, strength, ability to repair, along with them being a symbol of the cars that we are racing, but that is just my opinion....

Re: FV future #1 steering rack

First, I am surprised by the lack of comment on these issues. Actually, very surprised. On this suggestion, I see only positives. Allowing a taller driver to fit only increases the odds of larger fields. I do not see a performance advantage, and if someone else does, please educate me. Additionally,...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

As discussed in our last few meeting minutes, the FV Ad Hoc Committee believes that machining of the valve guide bosses to fit smaller valve springs should not be allowed because it constitutes an unauthorized modification. We disagree with the recent rules "clarification" allowing this m...

Ditto that.......I have purchased the 22mm pieces and modified them to suit, but it is time consuming. I will try to get contact info. I believe his company is "TCI", as in "Technical Consulting Inc." There was the original edition, and then an updated edition. If someone else doesn't come up with it first, I will try to have that sometime today. I think it was at the 50th. that I...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

Ironically, it was the inability to acquire the stock 2.5mm ring sets that caused AA to switch to the 2.0mm rings (1966 1.3L style). This is easily validated by contacting Ron at AA. While most of us don't use full width rings, the earlier piston was actually superior for the wider rings dictated th...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

I stand corrected on this one point. The last I had heard (or read) from Dietmar was that there was insufficient interest to bring the last NOS pistons in. Thank you for the update. Are there any more available, or is that the last of them to be had?
Still waiting on my questions to be answered.

1) Exactly what section of the rules authorized the machining of the heads... other than the combustion chamber.. in your opinion? Just because a surface is machined does not mean we are authorized re-machine that surface. Do you think all machine surfaces are open to re-machining? Actually, No, I ...

They know exactly what they want to accomplish on this subject. The reduction of the guide boss is not considered a valid interpretation of the rules. There is a good chance many on the committee would have your heads declared illegal. The specification of the spring ID is a compromise that achieve...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

The issue is that there are a number of heads in service that have valve guide bosses that were machined in violation of the rules. I guess we are just of a difference in opinion as to whether a rule was broken concerning an area that has never had a spec or tolerance attached to it. Why were the r...

That is an interesting problem you have found. Yup. Now you are indicating a complete indifference to the machining rule because you say it d...

Having discussed the Spec Tire issue with a few people (not many....just a few), I am already seeing that there are two distinct trains of thought: Group A wants a harder tire that is more durable, reducing cost. At least at this point, this group thinks they are willing to trade some grip for tires...

The bosses are already different sizes, different heights, and not even close to being on centerline with the valve guides. Just what I would e...
