I think you may have been under a rock............I grew up (70's, 80's) playing "punch buggy" in the North East...........I went to school in Florida, and they all grew up playing it as well (we were all a bunch of vw nuts........I guess thats why I chose vee)

I don't know where you race....but in the NE our tracks are pretty bumpy (except the freshly paved ones)

On a regional level we do this with "veefest" in the north east..........it has been pretty successful

I'm sure many of us have plenty of cores and/or regional manifolds that can be reworked sitting in our garages.........I have at least six.

I've seen a lot of beams fold like that.........think of it as a crumple zone...........they're great at absorbing energy

I had an all original '57 as my daily driver for over two years......sold it to buy my first vee I still have my '67 bus though

Another driver tried to go inside two us going into big bend after the track was oiled from a previous crash.......none of us made it thru.....my season was over due to extensive damage..............
