Re: Wheel cover ban

I don,t see any way to write lack of commitment into the rules so those with less commitment can compete.
Good post, Butch. And congrats on keeping your participcation streak going. Six decades and counting, that is just epic!

Re: Wheel cover ban

Good points, John, especially about manifolds and rules creep. Here's a radical suggestion: The FV Committee should be reestablished with more official power over the FV rules within the SCCA/CRB structure. It should be elevated from an advisory committee to a committee with authority to write and r...

Equally appropriate, since they obviously chapped someone's ass.

Re: May Minutes

I understand and agree with the concern about the location of the top ring groove, but to Jim's point, if it is legal to put a 2.0mm ring in a 2.5mm groove now, what is the problem with allowing a 2.0mm groove? If there is a concern about leaving ring thickness open, thus enticing some people to try...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Too many M names. Can't keep them all straight. I use my real name on all the sites so I can remember who I am! I agree with Mike's post. There are bigger issues affecting club racing than we can or should try to address with changes to FV. The best we can do is to promote our class better within th...

http://articles.boston.com/2012-02-19/business/31077742_1_gas-prices-gasoline-prices-summertime-gasoline This is our problem period. I would agree with that. The last time I towed from Milwaukee to Mid-Ohio (back in late 2008) it cost me over $450 in fuel just for my tow vehicle. That was the third...

Re: Midwest FV Drivers Association

I think it should be the Cendiv FV Drivers Association and we should focus on promoting FV turnout in our own division. We don't need by-laws or officers to do this. IMO, the only "driver's association" we really need is a group of FV owners on an email list trying to promote the class in ...

Somewhere in the process, the membership will have to be OFFICIALLY polled by SCCA as to whether or not this is what the membership really wants. If by "officially polled," you mean a survey similar to what the FVAC recently conducted, it has not been my experience that this is part of th...

Re: Tire Survey

200 responses is far better than anything on the forums. The committee should do a weight survey once the results are in from the tire survey since that seems to be another recurring hot topic. Keep it simple. Two questions: 1. What is the current as-raced weight of your car with driver? Provide a r...

Hey Hal, could you post a photo of that balancer you made? Sounds look a good winter project, and a good use for one of the several jacked up spindles I have laying around. Here's a tire changer that looks like it would work for Vee tires. Anybody used one like this? http://www.nomartirechanger.com/...

A 6-inch tire should fit on a 5.5 rim with no problem, but I'm not sure on the bolt pattern of those wheels.

Re: HNR Recertifications Required

Here is the rule from the current SCCA GCR: As of 1/1/12, head and neck restraints meeting SFI 38.1 or FIA 8858 will be required. But I would really like to know how SFI or HANS think they are going to enforce this statement: • Competitors may use an FIA certified Head and Neck Restraint at an FIA e...

Should be a good race tomorrow. I expect Mike's plan will be to try to check out at the front and hope the rest of the top 5 fight it out for position behind him. But if they all work together, it could get interesting!

Re: Bolt on valve covers

As rare as it may be, the first post in this thread references two events that were directly related to a valvecover being knocked off through contact. I literally had a front seat view of the incident at the Runoffs last year, as it was my left front shock tower that knocked the valvecover off a ca...

Re: Bolt on valve covers

Open wheel drivers should be able to run close at speed without touching ea other most of the time and yes there are times when something happens that's the way it is. You are correct that in a perfect world, there would never be contact between cars or any other situation in which a valvecover cou...

Re: Bolt on valve covers

Yes.... make sure no one puts a wheel where a wheel should not be or you putting the car where is should not be. OK, I will "make sure" that never happens. Maybe we should put it in the GCR: no FV may make contact with another car in such a manner that allows a valvecover to be knocked of...

I wouldn't trust current pump blend fuels in my older fuel cell. Regardless of what the fuel cell makers say about their current products, I'm not taking any chances with my 12-year-old cell when a replacement is pushing $1500! Given the cost difference between AV gas and pump gas (which is only abo...

Re: Combined FV/F5 qualifying for *ALL* sessions ??

FVs and F500s can be a real clusterf*** at RA, especially in the Kink, but hopefully the combination at the Runoffs will prove to be at most a minor inconvenience to all involved.

Re: Bolt on valve covers

Is there anything that can be done to increase the security of the clip that holds the stock valve cover, like a brace or lock of some kind, or safety wire? It seems like that would be the best of both worlds--keep the stock cover but decrease the chances of it being knocked off.

It's obvious that neither side will ever concede, but I can't see it making long term sense for two nearly identical classes to exist within the SCCA structure. Just look at the situation with the Touring and Showroom Stock classes. Eventually push will come to shove and the SCCA will decide for us....
