Re: 2017 NE Drivers Schools Schedule

Thanks Barry. Yes I had looked there without luck. And thank you also John. I didn't see a car listed in the classifieds with your name. What are you selling? When I get my SCCA Novice Permit, and without having taken a school, when am I allowed to drive the car on the track? Can I run lap days or ...

Re: 2017 NE Drivers Schools Schedule

We just had a school at Thompson. Three (3) FV drivers made it through the school. Thompson has more schools scheduled, but I think they are for closed wheel only. "If" there are more people who need a school, an inquiry could be made to see if they can include open wheel. I think NJ has a...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

This is the decision – I wish I knew what it meant…. The CRB and the FSRAC will be looking at defining a minimum ID for the bottom of valve springs in FV. Many heads came from VW with this area of the valve guide already machined. The clarification about machining this area was issued to prevent mis...

Re: Majors - RA 19-20 Mar

In my time 'before' SCCA, I was part of the track inspection and safety committee for a National organization. We decided for "every" event, there would be 2 golf carts, that were always manned, with radios and fire extinguishers. As luck would have it, first event we did this, Superkart, ...

Re: Majors - RA 19-20 Mar

It was sorta obvious listening to the announcers that the finish was a bit confusing.
Do I have the results correct?
And congratulations on the double win. Am I to presume all the damage from Florida has been corrected?

NHMS NERRC Triple Play, NARRC Double" Regional Races

The weekend started out with 18 pre-entries. We were missing some of regulars due to personal or job commitments. Hope to see them all at Thompson. Friday started with both drivers’ school and open practice. The “chance of rain” forecast turned into a steady and heavy rain day. In the drivers’ schoo...

Re: July Minutes

The FV Ad Hoc Committee met on July 24 ...snip... One of the issues with the Chinese cylinders is the narrow shoulder on the barrel that fits against the engine case. If this shoulder were made wider ( as in the original VW and aftermarket cylinders), then that would solve one of the problems inher...

Re: Brake thought for the month.

I have ONE wheel, Right Rear, that I have a problem with. After about 2 sessions (20 minutes each) I get brake drag. I back off the adjuster, make sure I have no drag, but after 40 minutes, it's dragging again. Cleaned it, checked out movement, all seems fine. Any thoughts? (No, I am NOT going to pu...

Re: Brakes - drums -> discs

John (or anyone else) Educate me - why do the spindles need to be stronger with disc brakes vs drums? Also, if I buy the rotors do you think you could build a bracket and caliper setup that would work? I'm thinking about switching to discs for one of the NHMS regionals. After I run them they are av...

Re: Hoosier tire bead seating?

Brian's right - the newer constuction hoosier's take some serious effort to mount. After they have been run once or twice it's not so bad, but new they can be a real pain. Napa sells some good old fashioned rubber lube that works well. Once every few years I get my wheels sand blasted, then re-pain...

Re: Was Brad's Brundage Cup block OK?

Very serious topic. Been going to tracks since I was 2 years old. ALL forms of racing. Grew up in a racing family. Since when did ANY form of blocking become accepted in racing? Come on ... F1, one block is okay but 2 you get penalized... WHY is 1 block okay? Why do people accept that as a standard ...
