Re: Runoffs qualifying
As I read the provision, to split groups, as shown on the bottom of the schedule, it only applies to Tuesday and Wednesday. FV qualifying starts on Thiursday, so it won't help.

Re: Runoffs qualifying
Andy, I totally agree, but I think a similar question was raised last year and it fell on deaf ears then and we spent our whole qualifying session looking in our mirrors. At the time of writing, FV has the second highest entry (35) after SRF (38). Its the highest in the open wheel classes by 45%, FF...

Re: Carbon fiber monocoque chassis
I raced against this car in 2001. It’s a TTM- Veetech. They clearly had a few teething troubles as it only ran mid-pack in its first couple of races and was withdrawn. It reappeared later in the season and blew us all away. Three carbon-fibre chassis were produced. One made it to the track; the othe...

Re: HNR Recertifications Required
Thanks Jim,
But I am not sue it does answer my question.
I have a Schroth HANS device, purchased in Britain, with only an FIA certification (no mention of SFI), am I good to go next year?
Guy.

Re: Combined FV/F5 qualifying for *ALL* sessions ??
Steven, This will be my first RunOffs so I am a novice in these matters. How do the combined qualifying sessions work? Do the F5s and FVs take to the track as a group as we do for the Nationals or will the groups be split? For example, a minutes gap between the last F5 taking to the track and the fi...

Re: Brazilian Brake Drum markings
I agree with John and Steve, in my limited experience, this type of drum failure has generally been due to an insufficiently torqued axle nut.
Jim Schings sells a torque multiplier tool especially for this task. I have found it invaluable.

Also the device must have either an SFI or FIA approval sticker on it. Early HANS devices did not carry an approval sticker and will need to be re-certified for use in 2012.

Re: F1200 Mosport Aug 6-7
I am not wishing to offend Michael Iamundi, but is refreshing to see different winners. With Andrew McMurray winning at Shannonville, I think that is four different winners after three weekends. I think we had just four different winners all last year!

The following is taken from the FIA FT3 standard circ 1999: FUEL BLADDER LIFETIME No fuel bladders shall be used for more than 5 years after the date of manufacture, unless reinspected and recertified by the manufacturer at the end of this 5 year period, for a supplementary period of up to 2 years a...

Re: Fuel bladder/cell
Another thought. The Jaz cell I used a few years ago, didn’t have a roll over air vent, i.e. a self sealing air vent, which closes should the car roll over. Your old cell may have one or you may have to buy that separately, another $30 or so.

Re: Fuel bladder/cell
Have a careful read of the regulations. SCCA GCR states that a fuel cell must be ‘FIA FT3 certified’, this basically means your options are ATL or Fuel Safe. However CASC regulations state the fuel cell must be manufactured to FIA FT3 regulations or better. Crucially, they do not mention ‘certified’...

Re: Front Offset Spindle Bushings
Andrew, The Jacer (in its F1200 format) had 3° negative camber in each side at the front. The Kumhos didn’t like going into positive camber, so this coupled with limited droop worked very well. Especially at Calabogie in ‘07, 1.18.7. The following year with the same engine and front dampers, but on ...

Re: Front Offset Spindle Bushings
As I think has been said, the commercially avaiable 'offset' bushings give about 2 degrees negative camber, which is idea for the US FV bias ply tires.
However, the Canadian radial tires really need more camber, 3 degrees or so. The difficulty is getting this without binding up the front end.

Re: Front suspension
More thoughts. I am not a Chassis Dynos expert, so perhaps the more knowledgeable could correct me, but the Chassis Dyno resistance is critical to getting meaningful information. A Vee weighs 1000lbs and has 50hp; the average dyno is set up to test 3000lbs, 500hp muscle cars. So a Vee on a 3rd gear ...

Re: Front suspension
Kevin, I have been thinking some more about your lack of speed. Mosport is a power track, not so much a handling track. Shannonville is a handling track. Thus, it strikes me that either you are down on power, damatically over weight or have poor aerodynamics, or combination there of. You can at leas...

Steven's advice is good. 2005 was my first season in F1200 (I'd raced Vee's in Europe before that) and I had engine problems all season and was never able to keep up with the leaders. I blew the motor during the first race of the final weekend of the year. Bill Vallis lent me his spare motor, carb t...

Re: Mosport F1200 May 7-8
The tires bite me in the end. I should have settled for second, but that is not really the idea. I was too hot into nine in the vain hope I might catch Phil Wang, slide wide and was so slow coming out of 10 that the others passed me. But that’s the way it goes. I was a very enjoyable race, neverthel...
