Re: Refilling shock
The spring rate of an extended gas shock is created by the difference in area between the bottom of the piston and the top where the shaft connection takes up some of the area. The three factors that impact the end result are piston diameter, shaft diameter and gas pressure. Assuming that the first ...

Re: Refilling shock
I believe there is a pressure difference as you must subtract the area occupied by the piston shaft from the piston diameter on one side. The interesting thing is that this pressure difference remains constant for any piston position subject to the time needed for flow of fluid. By changing the pres...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake
I would like to thank the individuals who have contributed technical opinions and information on the subject of the spec manifold. Looks like it is not a simple subject to understand. I race a combination of Nationals and Regionals including last years Runoffs. From my viewpoint I have not seen any ...

Re: The New Manifold Rules for 2010 AVAILABLE
My car was impounded at the runoffs and the manifold was checked. It passed and received a sticker. Based on the measurement information provided to me that same manifold will not pass the "new rule" to go into effect Jan 1. If you were at the runoffs meeting you heard the proposed measure...

Re: Losing Power...
Take a look at your fuel cell vent line. Without outside air pressure the fuel pump cannot receive fuel from the cell. This takes some time to happen as the cell can compress to some degree to compensate. Check for a crimp in the vent hose especially when the fuel level drops and the seat position m...

Re: SRF vs VEE
Brian, In the Central Florida Region we watched our car count almost disappear at regional events. Over the ten years I have raced here just about every Vee driver was taken out by SRF's. Last Oct. two of us had our cars demolished by SRF's in one regional. I rolled 5 or 6 times ending up upside dow...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
Sometimes I don't do a good job of expressing my position so in response to Mr Grimes request that I measure my manifold I offer the following: About nine years ago I purchased an expensive manifold from a well respected member of the Formula Vee community. This was not a one off piece but rather re...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
In over 20 years of racing vees I think I have invested in just about every gadget, guage, engine mod, aero mod, data collector, and newer car design, that came to my attention. My goal was like most of you to run up front with the big guns. Inspite of a major investment in these items I remained ab...

Re: WTB USED PENSKE OR FOX REAR SHOCK
I am not sure what you are able to afford but let me offer an alternative. For the past 18 months I have been working with a smaller shock company and a NASCAR driver to develop a shock package for Formula VEE. The objective has been to provide top performance at reduced pricing. I can provide a 40m...

Re: Low turnouts
There are some problems with what you are suggesting. Some of us choose not to chase points in any series but select the races we attend based on other criteria. I race nationals, regionals ,and some SARRC races and vintage. Introducing a spec tire means one more set of tires I will need to have ava...

Re: Kellison
The steering is unusual with a long tie rod connecting both spindles and a very long pitman arm with a tie rod to the right side. I thought it would be a problem but it was fine. This is the original design. Why I don't know. Some cars that I have seen have been converted to center box location.

Re: Kellison to the track
Sebring Report, The car passed tech and made it to the track. We ran four successful sessions including two races with no serious problems. Actually we were able to beat the small bore roadsters. I can't get over the difference between the Kellison and my Caracal D. The acceleration really suffers w...

Kellison to the track
After 17 years of sitting idle the Kellison is about to make its first trip to the track. I hope to be able to get it through tech to run the Vintage race group at Sebring this weekend. I have been able to run it down our road to check the systems but not at speed. A lot of people have helped with t...
