Re: Brake thought for the month

no need to remove the wheels, just cut out slots in the backing plate with a dremel and cover the slots up with tape when you are running.

or leave them open to get a similar "wheel pants" effect

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

- ask the tire makers to produce a compound that gets better with age. - the toyo RA-1 ran its best laps on cord and so do the falken's the 1200's run, how is it that street DOT R compounds can do this and the current slick used in vee does not? everyone knows how awful the toyo R888 were and look a...

Re: Cylinder compression

compression test wont tell you much frank. you need to do a leak down to calculate loss. and the engine also needs to be warm too.

if you dont get the timing mark in the right spot for each cylinder 1 or 2 degs either way will give you crazy numbers.

http://www.casc.on.ca/sites/default/files/2011_appendix_q_section_a_f1200.pdf virtually identical, only difference i'm aware of: -intake manifold limit on size less, significantly less than SCCA - wheels and tire package (falken radials on 14 inch wheels) - weight 1075lbs (because tires are heavier...

Re: Zero roll spring

i would say these tires are about 4-5 secs per lap slower than hoosiers at mosport. a lot of it is due to grip, but a portion of it is also the drag of a larger footprint in the air stream, higher unsprung weight plus taller tire = more resistance and friction for weeee HP to overcome. running them ...

Re: Zero roll spring

i only say "have you put 2 wheels on the grass yet" simply becuase ....and i mean this as a joke more than anything...what i really mean is... are you driving the car at or near the limit of adhesion on a frequent basis? are you extracting all you can out of the car currently? only then wi...

Re: Zero roll spring

frank Your best bet would be to look at what greg is doing with steve bamford's M2 up here at mosport. that would give you the closest comparison i believe. I'm sure your setup is already similar to that or within reason when it comes to the actual design and geometry, thus your values should be sim...

Re: Do you swap your brake shoes?

ok so now i see i contradiction here!
according to bruce my original thought was correct about which shoe is the leading shoe. but brians comments suggested otherwise. anyway i'm not losing sleep over it.

how about the leading shoe is the one that crosses the start/finish line first! hehe

Re: Do you swap your brake shoes?

thanks so i had it backwards as far as what i thought leading shoe was then. i have stock pads anyway but i can see how radiusing them and checking the clearances will make a big difference in overall stopping power vs just locking them up. more surface area = more heat generation and dissipation pe...

Re: Do you swap your brake shoes?

for clarification would the leading shoe on the Front left be the top shoe since the brake cylinder is pushing upward there and the rotation of the tire is upward at that point (rolling forward)

thanks

Re: weight issue

its very possible to generate a competitive latp time with a significantly heavier car. how repeatable that lap time is very suspect and difficult. you'd have to be perfect in your driving and have perfect setup for conditions. when weight limit was 1050 there were plenty of top guys runnning 1070+ ...

thanks guy, you answered my question and a lot more actually no the kumho's definietly do not like going positive camber, once the sidewall "breaks" or is over loaded, you can scrap that corner you were in and your laptime for that matter. if you go back and look at old photos of cars in c...
