Re: spindle kit
Thanks for the response Bill. Does that mean kits aren't available because they aren't required? Or that they are available but not needed? I am building a FProd vintage ghia that will likely see similar cornering speeds as a FV, but at 1800# with the extra spring rate (force) and heat generated und...

spindle kit
Have heard of kits available to strengthen/reinforce the hollow spindles....
What options are available that will also work on disk brake/ball joint spindles?
Thanks,
Daryl

Re: New HANS device info
After reading all the replies on this post I was supprised to hear so much about the HANS device from so many people who do not use one. Maybe those of us who have done the most research into the purchase thought it best to buy something else. It is no secret that I am not a big fan of HA...

Re: New HANS device info
The F1 teams manufacture and have certified there own models for individual drivers. I don't know if the need permission from the original manufacture. An off the shelf HANS can't be ideal for every driver/chassis/restraint combination available. These teams have the resources to manufacturer to th...

Re: New HANS device info
The mass of our head/helmet combo and the small size (relative to the harness straps) of the HANS tethers probably allow for some amount of stretch in the HANS tethers as well. It is more a question of over how much distance or time does the dissipation of that energy take place. The HANS distance/t...

Re: New HANS device info
Problem is we aren't talking about only modern formula cars or only fendered cars with the latest seats, proper belt spacing, right side nets, etc. Ideally we want our head and our body to decelerate together. However that isn't going to happen. What we need to do is minimize the difference between ...

Re: Latest Fastrac
but wonder why these changes are in the pipeline. Same reason most changes are proposed. A competitive advantage to be had somehow, otherwise they wouldn't be staring at the thing thinking "if only the rules would allow me to.....(fill in the blank)" This isn't about a part no longer bein...

Re: New HANS device info
Jim, I know that several things have been done to help reduce the likelyhood. I am not certain about the timeline but I know that they added the lips on the edge, changed the surface of the area the harnesses go over, revised the shoulder harness mounting instructions (3" max spacing between be...

Re: New HANS device info
Some have mentioned they would like to see a HANS device that stays in the car for ease of egress. I don't know about you, but if my body is trying to depart the car I would like my head to come along for the ride as well and not be stuck in the car with the Hans. The quick release tethers that the...

Re: New HANS device info
Kevin, "13.9" is now "8.1.4" exact same words. Not sure when the numbering changed. "20.4" appears to now be 9.13.8.C as you guessed. IMO it doesn't speak to the driver being free from the car with a single point of release, nor even the seat, only that the lap belts an...

Re: New HANS device info
There have been several attempts to clarify the wording. I don't race SCCA so I don't keep real close tabs on the happenings in Fastrack nor do I have the newest GCR. However in Nov 06 or thereabouts the clarification was "There shall be a single release common to the seat belt and shoulder har...

Re: New HANS device info
The ISAAC is very easy to disconnect. I can release it quicker than getting out of my harness...it is quite simple. If you can close your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears without missing you can do it in about the same amount of time. As far as the ISAAC not being SCCA legal, that simply IS ...

Re: New HANS device info
I use an ISAAC and will not use anything else currently on the market or in the pipeline. My fear is that HANS will continue to lobby until their device is the only approved device. They will then cease to make any improvements despite the known shortcomings. What do you think a market without compe...
