In a second press release dated April 1st, the SCCA announces, "We realize that our internally created web site is an ugly and totally useless diaster. In order to create a new attractive and functional site, we will be solicting proposals from high school students on facebook.com."

Re: Drum Brake Questions
I was using 5/8ths inch master cylinders for both circuits. I do have a balance bar, but I think it is set slightly to the front, but I'm not certain. The fronts lock first. Use stock brake shoes. Since these are not power brakes, it does take more leg power to get the car stopped, but with the righ...

Re: Solo Vee Disc brakes... anyone converted?
You have a single circuit brake system? You should strongly consider a dual circuit system for increased safety.

Scott, this is the only area where no one is sharing info. I think that several of us have found the same info as you probably have, but no one is saying. All I will say is, I'll find out if I screwed up in a few weeks.

Try 12 in the fronts and 14 in the rears. Get a good probe type pyrometer and a really good 0-30psi guage and adjust to your car and driving style.

Re: Revamped National Racing Program and Runoff???
The new configuration at Indy was designed to be used by F1 as well as MotoGP in 2008. It has FIA approval for F1. The new design eliminates the use on any of the oval corners which was done to make Bridgestone and the constructors happy.

Re: Revamped National Racing Program and Runoff???
Above all - I think the LOCATION of the Runoffs should be a place where people WANT to go - not where they HAVE to go to run the Championships...! e.g. I live in GA - but if the Runoffs were held at Laguna Seca, I would work HARD to get there, even as far as it is ... 2nd Creek Raceway? .. not so m...

Based on the concept of "If it doesn't say you can, then you can't", I would say the onboard misters are illegal.
My car gets no air to the heads because the body is wider than the engine. Scoops will be added this year.

Re: oil cooler
Yes, R25As. Here in the DC region, the temperature is usually in the 90s in the summer. With the sun beating down, the tires seem to get hotter on the grid than right after a run. I don't have a pyrometer, but my calibrated hand confirms it. ;) Plus, we do about 1000 runs in a day, so there's lots ...

Re: oil cooler
Even if the oil circuit plumbing comes out of your engine, through a filter, into your engine, back out of your engine, through a cooler, and then into your engine again, it is still a series circuit. A parallel filter, cooler circuit is a recipe for disaster. That would mean some percentage of oil...

Re: oil cooler
If there is not a danger, I would be interested in the suggested plumbing too. Before or after the filter? If not in series, then how?? Thanks. In series. There are very minor pros and cons on which is first, but I would run through the filter first. But whatever is easiest is fine. That is interes...

Re: oil cooler
Both my cars have external oil filters and oil coolers. No problems at all. I can't remember how they are plumbed, but the filter and cooler are not in series.

Re: My "new" Solo Vee is ready 'cept for wheels
Lisa, I was just wondering how your car was coming along today while working on mine. For aluminum wheels try Real Racing Wheels or Bogart Racing Wheels . The Real wheels are probably cheaper. I have a set of Bogart VW Stars. Very high quality. Vern Maxey uses them also. I also have a set of MRT alu...

FM Brake rules clarification
The SEB has issued a clarifiecation of the rear brakes rules in the March Fastrack. The rear brakes may be two pieces. The rotor must be ferrous, but the hub or hat may be ferrous or aluminum. Happy disk brakes, everyone. [:D]

You could've shifted to third just before turning right at the cone wall after the start gate. And maybe a little more rpm at the start. My co-driver and I will be installing the 1915 in the Beach this week and next week.

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
Yes, it was Andy Whittle. He's currently helping build Mike Mahen's new AM. My Beach really didn't have brakes when I bought it. It had a single circuit system and apparently the cylinder sizes were mismatched. The first time I drove it, I was very happy that there was about two blocks of runoff spa...

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
A local driver and engineer who has had at least two of his A Mods banned by the SCCA gave me the following advice: "If one end or the other isn't unstuck, you aren't trying hard enough." It's true. If the car is cornering like a train on rails, you are going way too slow.

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
Because you are sitting so low and out in the open, it will feel faster than anything street car. It will out brake and out corner anything you have driven. However, it won't necessarily out accelerate street cars. I have driven my co-driver's semi BSP prepped STi and it easily out accelerates the v...
