25HR Thunderhill Race

Current FV drivers Scott Meyer, Aaron Meyer, and former FV driver Jason Ricker win the longest, most grueling, endurance race in north america, the NASA 25hr of Thunderhill. Not only did we win our class, we won the under 2 liter class, and were the top finishing amateur team finishing 6th overall, ...

Re: Attaching speed sensor pickup

What is the problem you are having? If it is dirty data then the RPM filter should fix it.

For whatever reason I have had to use the filter on all but one of my FV's

Re: Attaching speed sensor pickup

Jim, Make sure you are using the wire marked 150-400v (I think it is the white wire) to hook up to the secondary side of the coil. Don't use the the one marked 12v (I believe it is the blue wire) Also sometimes I have to use the AIM RPM filter to get a clean square wave so the RPM data is accurate. ...

Re: American Racer compounds

Iv'e been running AR's for years and have never seen the softer compound. A couple of years ago we inquired with AR about the softer compound for the runoffs at Laguna and they said that they could make it but they would have to make a whole batch of tires which was something like 50. That was the e...

Re: Leading arm attachment

The real demon in vw rear suspension is the tendency to hike up and reduce camber. Once positive camber is achieved, the car becomes diabolical. Zero roll tends to control hiking better than just limiters like the z bar or droop control. The Triumph Spitfires had swing axles and some experimented w...

Re: Leading arm attachment

Yep ... I MEANT to say that - spring/shock valving. The wheel rate is FIXED (pretty much). Can't change the wheel rate itself - just it's relationship to the spring. Actually the wheel rate is not fixed. it is a calculation of the spring rate and the motion ratio and will change depending on both f...

Re: Leading arm attachment

The same engineering that is used for a 'conventional suspension system' is used for a zero roll... or mono shock system. I don't necessarily consider mono shock and zero roll to be the same. Even though they both use one shock they are different. Are you certain Varicins' mono shock system has a b...

Re: Leading arm attachment

Just a little note on rear Motion Ratios. Over the last 30+ years I have tried high and low motion ratios with the zero roll rear suspension. My conclusion is it doesn't matter. In fact my current rear suspension system (Modified BRD) has the lowest motion ratio of any system that I have ever made, ...

Re: August Minutes

The white line is from a regional race that I drove with the AR tire. I don't think John was referencing the AR. I know I was not. The 5% is from the Falken DOT radial tire as used by the Canadians and the Challenge cup group. My sources say the Falcon is running around 2 seconds a lap slower then ...

Re: August Minutes

You've assume too much, it is not dead... I am sorry but less than 1.5 cars per event Regional is petty much dead. Brian Well the 6 car average at the western regional majors this year isn't exactly stellar..... Brian, how many races have you entered in the last two years? Maybe two? Where were you...

Re: Hoosier Spec Tire for FV

"The class loves the tire. Stickers are no longer the fastest or best cycle.  It eliminated what we were doing as far as stickering for qualifying and race with sm6 tire.  I think you can easily get 12 good cycles from them .  "personally" I can run a doubles majors on one set of sti...

Re: August Minutes

Yes, about 5 seconds a lap slower for that lap time seems to be about right. However, for a given lap time I think there will be a variation in the difference in performance depending on the specific track configuration/conditions. John John, Have you ever driven on the American Racer Spec Tire? Ba...

Re: August Minutes

There is concern by several Committee members that a spec tire will slow down the FV cars ,and with the current run groupings in certain regions, present a bigger hazard than what we have now with the speed and braking differentials. Really...... Your kidding right? Slowing down a FV 2.00 seconds a...

Re: spec tires

Brian M, I am always surprised by your dislike of the American Racer (M & H) FV tire. I have been running them for over 30 years and think it would be the best choice for a spec tire. You claim people say that they don't last long. Who are these people? I have never experienced this. In fact I t...
