Re: More tire info...

VW of America has had the head up there ass as far as club racing , and FV in particular is concerned for the last 30 years. The fact that they paid out anything in that time is a miracle as they see no value for them in it and concider it a complete waste of there resources. While I still race a VW...

Re: Pro event possibilty

Just looking at my shop wall and the poster from a Jan,31,1969 pro race at Daytona where VW put up $28,500.00 prise money.
Adjust that for inflation to todays money and it could make a guy unretire himself and run a FV again.

Re: remember "Pro Vee"?

lanier race was a great sucess from the tracks standpoint. They got a huge crowd from the runoffs when they were expecting a slow night (I believe Atlata was in the World Series a playing that night) They invited us back the next year with much better terms(More money and better padock space) Unfort...

Re: Wheel cover ban

I have been involved in FV racing for 49 years and club racing a few years longer. I too would like to cut the costs. However FV is one of the lowest cost places to race. the biggest costs are uncontroable. Entry fees, travel, and a host of other things not associated with your race car are going to b...

Re: Wheel cover ban

I don't know how the Wheel cover issue got hijacked into manifolds. I don't thonk Mike K ever charged $1000 for one but retailers are free to take whatever markup they want. In 1983 Ray Caldwell told me that he thought the sucess of FV eas in part due to the fact that it allowed inovation but at a s...

Re: Annual Waiver Hard Card?

I had one. Comparing registration to someone without one standing next to me I saved a total of seven seconds. This card could save you 35 or 40 seconds at registration in a year. That is unless you waste that time while a registrar tells you why you still need to sign a waiver. The card had a bar c...

I bought my first vee when I was 23. I'm 70 now and run a vee in an ocasional vintage race and a FST in SCCA, I'm not grey I'm bald. Seriously I see most youg vee drivers are children of former vee drivers. (sometimes present vee drivers). I was a Road America last weekend for a regional and the was...

Re: Greying of the class

Racing is not cheap. I don't believe SCCA is that much more money than other forms of racing that are attracting youg people.I do belive that the circle track culture is one where car owners are more likely to pick up young drivers and sponsor them than road racing where just about everybody is on h...
