Re: PROMO DVD Project Status Report

I have not forgotten the project, nor have I vacationed on the donations provided - all remains accounted for. Bottom line is I simply came to a point where my sight was failing me - more specifically, I could not see working one more day for the clowns I was employed by (note the operative word - w...

Re: Fitting in a car

Thank you for all the good advice. One thing i did not mention. For those of you who do not know me. I started racing vee's in 1980 and i raced them for 15 years. Then i bought a CFF and raced it for 5. Now my brother bought a vee and im sharing the ride with him. I also worked at DRE with Butch an...

Re: Fitting in a car

The Adams and BRD have a more upright seating position, producing a lot more room to move. I find that torso girth has a lot to do with fitment, with the further you lay back, the more problematic the fitment becomes, The Laser is nasty tight from the combined reclined driver position and narrow bod...

Re: Silver Wheel Color

Guys, thanks for the responses. Clubford, yes, I think I'll stay away from the powder coating for now. Kevin, the link looks good. How do I go about choosing a color code for the silver wheel paint? I've been looking around and have found nothing so far. I'd like it to be close in case I don't got ...

Re: Silver Wheel Color

I've been spray can painting everything longer than Butch has been FV racing, so this is an area I have some comfort in. Consider using engine enamel. Its resistant to oil and solvents. It can also be touched up, etc... Krylon is laquer-based and about as tough as a layer of chalk (for real spray ca...

Re: Revamped National Racing Program and Runoff???

VERY few 'serious' national drivers ever take points at Regional events..... A driver CAN DQ himself after the race by doing 'illegal' things (like not reporting to impound) however, SCCA insists that we 'abide by the rules' and will therefore apply points against a driver's license if he does such...

Re: Revamped National Racing Program and Runoff???

I suggest that the real issue is too much uniformity between regional and national levels. When national racers dominate the regional races the show up for, over regional enthusiasts leaves the regional guys always feeling like back markers and hacks. I know that all racing is supposed to be all out...

Re: Fuel testing rules

For anyone looking for a great unleaded race fuel, VP MS93 is made for engines like FV. Excellent in low compression, high temp environments, with the same specific gravity as 100LL, but without the lead, and no ethanol to eat the fuel cell, and is available at a decent price. Burns very clean, like...

Re: Fuel testing rules

Because of the high DC readings and the variability of street gas, it makes it impossible to determine whether the fuel in question is high in readings because of original formulation or addition of undesireable agents. Hence the banning of street gas. With all of the technical talent on the forum ...

Re: Fuel testing rules

Kevin, I'm inclined to agree with most of your points - however, IMHO, it is IMPERATIVE that SCCA make a rule that clearly states the INTENT of that rule - and that is to NOT allow exotic fuels. .... I agree that it should be easier to "play fair" and still play "cheaply". Steve...

Re: Fuel testing rules

I think the argument that allowing the DC of 15 will unleash upon us a free-for-all of exotic fuels a fallacious. In this same series of posts, there are complaints of exotic fuels, within current fuel spec, so its not like the DC of "0" is stopping that from happening. Exotic fuel mixture...

Re: FIA vs. SFI Harness Expiration

From what I understand, the FIA tag is all that is needed, and its date is the only one relevant. There is nothing on the SFI tag necessary to pass tech for SCCA, so is there a reason to leave it on the belts to argue over? Ours has no SFI tags at all (OMP), just FIA.

Use a shop vac and suck the air out of the bag. This will create a tightness and friction in the beads and hold them in place.

Re: Data Acquisition

Actually, you do want wheel speed too. It is needed to assess what you are looking for as well. Plus, it shows you just what you gain in the draft (in front and behind) and it helps you know if you exited a turn before a straight better (speed at end of straight) Pulling higher G's through a corner...

Re: Data Acquisition

To each their own and other opinions will vary, but..... I can 't imagine investing more than $1000 into DA on a Vee. SPS (Steering position sensors) TPS (Throttle Position) and linear shock pots, etc. seem like a bit of overkill when there is so much slop in steering gear boxes, front beams, swing...

Re: Fuel testing rules

Most all the tricks being applied to high compression engines are useless for the FV motor. The additives specifically stated in the GCR as illegal, have more to do with octane enhancement (aromatics) and lead substitues than they do with power additives. For a low compression, low RPM engine like t...

Re: Data Acquisition

What kind of data logger would you recommend? Is there a good one that doesn't cost thousands? How far do you want to go? You can get good information from an Aim system, including some inputs for engine tuning, etc., for around $1,000 +/-, which is good enough for many to gain better timing and ac...

Anyone have any idea what's going on with the CenDiv schedule? The web site says it took out the Milwaukee Grand Prix, but what has been removed from the schedule is the Cat National, leaving only 4 National races in the division?

Re: 6 or 12

When I bought our car, the starter was held in place by a fender washer clamping the edge of the starter flange. This resulted in the stud on the lower mount being bent. It's a silly arrangement that doesn't seem right to me, so I get rid of it. I use this starter: http://www.hitorque.com/IMI_Cross_...

Re: Bead Seats or Alternatives

I installed this seat system last year, and love it! http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=4525 The creafoam has beads of different sizes, so makes a very solid surface when its finished, with solid perimeter edges that don't flake away or break. The finished seat has a rubbe...

This is from an email sent out to the MARRS FV group. It was from a regional guy that does most of his own work on his car, not a Runoff's contender looking to move up the podium. It was an email he sent to the FV rep for input, so the actual request might have been different, but this was the inte...
