Re: First time I drove a FV...
Congrats on finally taking it out! I really am happy for you and I can't wait to see (virtually, at least) your reaction when you finally get a chance to drive it in the dry as well

Re: FART's Fifth Annual FV Invitational Race
Hi Jim - yes, you'll be very welcome to race with "us" at Mission with your ICSCC license! No one needs to worry about being a hazard at Mission - we've had fantastic races with big fields, with cars running on lap record pace all the way to 10+ seconds a lap slower. You'll find that every...

Re: Clutch lever
I've also seen some shafts with a groove on the bottom, used with a clamping style clutch lever arm!
But yeah, seems like you've figured this one out already I can't remember the size of the circlip, but I had one of those cheap parts store boxes of random sizes and one of them worked OK.

Mike, thanks but it was Mark who was looking! I had some spares as well but I don't think I had what he needed. I hope he found it by now

Re: August Minutes
Jim, the main problem I can see with that kit is where it says it spaces the wheels out by 1-1/2".. Our spindles are fragile enough as it is, with the increased weight from the rotors/calipers and the longer leverage, I'd be pretty worried. Then again, that's what the spindle savers are for, bu...

Re: August Minutes
I think what Greg is trying to say is that there should be some flexibility in this kind of stuff, not a set of hard rules for every measure. If something is introduced as an alternative, that doesn't require anyone to change anything and, by design, isn't even a competitive advantage, it shouldn't ...

Re: Runoffs Qualifying
Well Brian (Harding), I could post several examples of you finishing one or several laps down, being off the pace by a couple of seconds, at various tracks around California. Why did you even bother, and what were you even doing there? Maybe you should try karting to get some experience until you ca...

Re: August Minutes
I do know that when you drill/machine it, you do not get typical "metal filings" but piles of granular metal particles. That is typical of cast iron parts.. Try feeding faster and don't use coolant, but it'll always make a mess, no matter where the cast iron came from! I don't think the r...

Hehe.. Thinking about it, all the guys I know that did their own bodywork ARE single.
Looks like I'll be leaving this for another time. I'll scratch the fiberglass itch (ah!) by making some smaller stuff as a learning experience and move on.

Fiberglass bodywork
Howdy fellas.. I found someone that has molds for the bodywork on my car and has very generously offered to let me use them, as the fiberglass on my car is not in the best condition anymore. While my bodywork is certainly fixable, I'm trying to work out how much I'd spend on materials for a homemade...

Re: New FV wannabe looking to crew
SCCA Regional racing in the NWR hasn't been strong for a while, FV in particular. That was mostly a consequence of IRDC being a much better deal for regional type racing! That said, Nationals usually seem to have good races. That's an alarming email, but I expect next year we'll have a lot more cars...

Re: New FV wannabe looking to crew
Stephen has my half built car in his garage.. You should have seen it BEFORE we took it apart, it was full of good examples of what not to do :) With your background though, you'll have no trouble getting one of these cars sorted and going fast. I started racing FV in 2010, can't remember if I had e...

Funnily enough, even though you and smsazzy are continuously butting heads, I'm not sure that your opinions are terribly different. I have a feeling that with some mediation and a couple of beers (strong ones), you'd both be working towards the same goal. You obviously have different approaches to t...

Without trying to stir the pot too much, what is the reason behind the restriction? Are there certain characteristics that make radials advantageous (or not advantageous..)?

Ed - whaddaya mean "only" 1/4 to 1/3 of the cost? Damn, that's 25-33%. I regularly scour the depths of the internet to find 10% discount coupons! On a (slightly) more serious note.. Out of car prep costs, travel and entry fees, the three major costs of racing, there's really only...

Re: Just don't get it!
Why do people compare Canadian F1200 to US FV racing? Sorry, not to belittle them BUT their group is like a small SCCA region only 15 cars or so. Not even sure where to begin. Canadian F1200 is like a small SCCA region? lol.. Yes, a small SCCA region like pretty much no other, with intensely close ...

Re: Just don't get it!
Steve, like you say, I have no doubt lots of people would end up shaving them and throwing them away after a few short sessions. I just don't think the penalty for those who choose not to do so, would be as bad as it is now. At least there would be an option of running the same tires all year, givin...

Re: Just don't get it!
Steve, with all due respect, you won a race on the 3rd cycle of a set of tires and then swapped to new tires.. So with some good management, you're still buying a new set of tires every 1.5 weekends, at 4 or 5 sessions a weekend. When we hear guys like Jean S. say they're running tires with 65 sessi...
