Re: Frame Material
Thanks for the pointers - i was leaning towards 4130, but i know there are rules about welding and heat treatments to 4130 because it can be brittle if improperly welded.

Frame Material
What type of steels are nice frames made of? The rules say "steel tubing'. It seems like some exotic steels could be used - but before going down that route, I wanted to check on the exchange.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Cylinder Honing
Thanks for the tips guys.
If I understand correctly, a flex hone is good for freshening up a cylinder (removing glaze and possible some light scratches) but i need a real honing tool to fix up cylinders that need to be bigger our structurally fixed. Correct?

Re: Cylinder Honing
Thanks for the tips Brian -
Just trying to get a feel for what you're talking about. I can't seem to find a good honing tool online in that price range - would you mind giving me an example of a brand or model to look for?
Thanks!

Cylinder Honing
How do you know you are keeping the inside of the cylinder straight when honing it? I'm afraid that despite my best efforts to move the tool in and out I am not evenly distributing the pressure and time spent on all parts of the cylinder.
Any tips would be appreciated =)

spark plug depth
What is the recommended depth of the spark plug into combustion chamber? Should it be absolutely flush, or as long as the threads aren't showing is it ok? I read that I am not supposed to stack washers on the spark plug because of heat transfer from the spark to the head. Does this include the washe...

Hi Harding -
Sorry for the base questions, but:
What does 'trued up' mean?
Also, can the ARP bolts be re-used on the rods?
Thanks!

P&C replacement
How do I know if my cylinders need to be replaced? Do vertical ridges mean that they are garbage? Can they be honed out or fixed?
This is for a vintage engine - not trying to set land speed records =)
Thanks!

Re: Data Seminars
Just wanted to second what Scott has said. I am in my first season of FV. John's course has directly helped my understanding of how the car is actually working, as well as what I can do to be faster. Using the software and understanding the primary values on the data logger is relatively straightfor...

Re: drum not parallel to back plate
thanks for the reply guys. I did change the bearing races, and they are in there nice and good - hopefully... I went ahead and ordered a new backing for the right front wheel, which seems to be the worst. Bit cheaper than then spindle. I'll keep you guys posted next week to see what happened. If it ...

drum not parallel to back plate
Hey guys - searched the web all over for this, and unfortunately I think it might be me being incapable, rather than a *common* problem. I replaced the wheel bearings on all four corners of my vee. Now the drums don't sit flat on the back plate on three of the four corners To explain this better, th...

Quick follow up question:
What AN size is the brake line? Also, what connectors do I need to attach to the brakes?
Sorry for the nitpicking! Thanks for the pointers!

braided brake lines
Hi all,
I'm redoing the brakes on my vee. Does anyone run only braided brake lines (no hardline)? It Seems like it would be less of a pain in the neck, but it might feel a bit spongy in the brakes.
Tips? Experience?
Thanks!!!
