Re: Mounting tires tips

I've found a thin coat of white lithium grease on the wheel and the tire bead (then some tire lube) helps greatly in getting the tire on easier and the grease helps seal it to a point where virtually no air will escape while sitting around. Of course on every bare wheel I run around it with a wire b...

Have a MC drivers school to attend that day, wish I could make it to McHenry. Bob is great guy and a wealth of knowledge, and LRE has always had what I needed and oft times I would order something in the afternoon and have it the next day! Vee'n just ain't gonna be the same...

Re: Is there a such thing as to fast?

Video playback will hugely distort what you are seeing, would certainly be easier to follow in real time but still very impressive. I had an HO slot car track a long time ago, was about 25 feet long and I had hoped up Ferrari F1 car, seems to me when I could keep in on the track I could do a lap in ...

Re: Tire Changer

I'm with Bobc, I had a guy lathe down a junk drum so it is was just a flat plate, quite strong and works great, usually only need to tighten down the wheel with two lub bolts to change a tire. Yeah that balancer plate is flimsy looking for tire changine. Mikes right, I mounted up a new set of Hoser ...

Re: Bodywork painting

In 2001 I had a full time pro quote me a price of $1200 to paint my D-13, After I sput and sputtered that all the surfaces to be painted werer prepped and would be off the car he lowered it to $600. Realizing this was not a show car but a "working" car I took it to a friend in town who was...

Yes, this is what we were told when it was cancelled I/we and understand the business stand point, but those of us who signed up and showed a day early for the practice day all offered to pay more AND provide workers (free of charge of course) so we could get on the track, a lot of us had never been...

Re: Bent Wheels

I made a cracked spindle into a device I can stick in a vice or the mount on my bench in the motor stand, basically the spindle with a piece of pipe welded to it. I have very clean bearings lightly lubed, no grease so if you mount a wheel on there and give it a big spin it will turn for 20 minutes o...

I hope the test day will be guaranteed for this event as I went there on Thursday last year for the MC event specifically to take advantage of the test day, I had never been to the track before. The owner called off the test day Friday morning as he said there was not enough paying customers to pay ...

Re: Grattan and Blackhawk Farms Vee Fields

Bruce, it's not so much the length of the journey altough one does get used to the about two hours or less from my place to BFR or AB, 4 hours to RA, and going around Chicago is no big thing. I didn't say it was to far but just a long trip and as to Gregs plans to do both it is a long ways between t...

Re: Last minute helpful hints/suggestions?

Jeff, are you going to the BFR tire wall day this coming saturday? Usually done by noon and then we get to go out and lap the track for quite a long time, at a slow pace of course, sort of.... Be a good chance to get in some easy and free laps in a street car, good for working on your line with no p...

Re: Grattan and Blackhawk Farms Vee Fields

At the 2010 MC race last year, first time for me and first time for MC since in almost 10 years, we had 3 Vee's and not that many cars overall, might be more this year, not sure if I am going though.Grattan is a VERY interesting and challenging track, but was a really long trip to and from and motor...

Re: Seat position etc

The Pennon bead seat kit I got was the small, and I probably have enough materials left over to make another seat, the only think I would need would be a new bag but one could likley be fabricated from possibly a dry cleaning sleave or garbage bag. Your results may vary, of course. Hal D-13 88 Citat...

Re: Seat position etc

I used the Pennon bead seat kit for my Citation, was fairly easy to use but don't even think about doing it without help, definetly a two person job. I ran the vacum only about an hour and this was quite sufficient. After it cured I trimmed it then covered the entire seat with black gaffers tape, he...

Re: oil pressure relief valve

My "special" tool for this is a very large washer that will fit tite in the groove, with a small vise grips clamped to it at a right angle, might have to grind the washer some for fit. Works great.
