Re: Runoffs First Qualifying

Thank you Brian, I was in the 2009 race with the "stuff" before the first turn. Ended up in the end passing 17 by just keeping it on the road -- I felt like Forrest Gump in a "Mad Max" movie.

Runoffs First Qualifying

I saw the real time timing sheet on Thursday. Does anyone know what happened.

Several cars did not get past 2 laps and the entire filed did not do what would have been a full number of pals for the session?

Thank you.

Re: hard clutch?

Does your Citation have the slave cylinder located vertically with the clutch activator arm bent about 90 deg? This is the OEM set up that was made clear the old exhaust system. My XTC-41 had it and it was almost impossible to get the clutch depressed. I had to push the pedal as you described and it...

Re: Towing with a Vanagon?

I have towed my Vee with a '93 Eurovan for 6 years. The Van is the 2.5 L water cooled front wheel drive. The Trailer is an open IRD. I carry some 1,200 # of gear in the Van. The Vee and trailer are about 1,200+ # combined. I looked up the specs and apparently the Eurovan can tow 4,400 # and have 1,8...

Re: ARRC or SEDIV Fall Races for FV

Here is the Atlanta Region's description of the 2010 ARRC. You can run your Vee and many other cars now. Just don't run the car in the class that you ran at the Runoffs. So the SE does have a Vee race this fall; see the Atlanta Region link below http://www.atlantascca.org/arrc/54/184-new-format-for-...

Re: ARRC or SEDIV Fall Races for FV

The ARRC is for non-National classes. Kind of a Regional Runoffs.

Re: After Market Spindles

A recent Fastrack noted a supplier where we could use their spindles and and links and gave part numbers. http://www2.cip1.com/searchresults.asp?searching=Y&sort=11&cat=789&show=20&page=3 The Fastrack specifically gave two part numbers. I got them and had to assemble each side. They ...

Re: RIP Bill Scott

Bill Scott was was instructing at one of my Drivers' Schools in 1976. He gave an interesting talk and I have not forgotten the main point. He talked about taking a stop watch, in those days they were mechanical with a sweep hand, starting it and trying to stop it at one point -- say 10 sec. See how ...

Re: Electronic Ignition

I have the Ignitor II on my Vee and 1967 912 with an 009 distributor. You will not get a useful dwell reading because the electronic points change it over the range, as shown on the dwell chart referenced above. Jim Schings can tell you this as he did me. Just put your faith in some "smart poin...

Re: warning. dont do this

They used to feed a VW case to the bonfire at the evening partys at Road Atlanta years ago. It is a bit strange to see a very weird green fire and people wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking for long shots! John, Here is a long shot. What are your temperatures, especially head temps if you have them? Everyone in this thread has run you through the fuel and spark trails. If this is happening late in the race and comes and goes I can think of one weird...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

Wings on a current Vee would probably knock 10mph off the top end.
Over 30 years ago Harvey Templeton gave me a simple rule of thumb on wings and race cars; "If you spend more time in the straights than the corners, wings will only make you go slower (on a lap)."

Re: Runoffs practice tickler

The Runoffs at Road America may not need much practice. Here is one for laughs. In the '60s Denny Hulme ran four laps at RA and set a new record. He had not raced there before. Someone asked him how he did it and he told him it was simple, "The course is a bunch of 90 degree turns!" Fast, ...

Re: Ride Height Adjusters

John, I have put in the first one one my top tube. You can put your springs in either the top or bottom tube. I have figured out a way to get rid of the adjusting set nut and can get a bit more clearance for the steering box if it is below and bumps up on the adjuster. I will drill and tap the insid...

Re: FV Party Info

Tony, Steve gave a good report. I have four corners to replace , a front beam, and have to figure out how to get the rear pick-ups in the right place and a new back piece for the trans. My biggest disappointment was in qualifying for the Brundage Cup and not being able to run in it! I started out on...
