Re: Low turnouts

Hey now Butch! I'm one of the bored watchers! It can't be any worse than having to watch "All Pinks , all the time"! The fact that we have over 130+ replies shows that this class still has a passionate following and all attempts should be made to grow it. The FST model has proven that spec...

Re: Low turnouts

I have to agree with Greg that the so called spec tires won't slow down the drivers by that much! I feel everyone is reading too much into this subject and there are those who believe the loss of performance is greater than it really is. I fail to understand how you wouldn't give up a half second pe...

Re: Low turnouts

Lee: The consequences of low turnouts will force the Vee's to run with SRF's, CF, FF and even FC's if the numbers aren't raised. I do remember the regions near Summit Pt. even discussing the exclusion of certain formula car groups if they didn't increase their numbers due to the SM/SSM drivers compl...

Re: Low turnouts

Jeff: I have been watching the Fv count in your area and the SF area and both are good. However, many other regions of the country are experiencing lower turnouts and would like to increase their car count. If reduction in tire or other costs can be achieved then why wouldn't a region try to reduce ...

Re: Low turnouts

The purpose of my original post wasn't to create a pissing match between the FV & FST drivers, many who are one in the same. But rather take a look at increasing the FV fields by attempting to get older cars back on the track. The FST concept in tires has worked very well with 25+ heat cycles th...

Re: Thow Out Bearing

If the cluth operating shaft is moving due to the clip being damaged or removed, then the alignment of the TO bearing and PP will be off and therefore the failure. I had this problem at M-O last fall, and cured it by replacing the TO bearing, installing a new clip to prevent the shaft from moving et...

Re: flat tire

Don: Although I understand your desire not to waste a $100 tire. I question the value and safety of placing a "hotpatch" on a racing tire. You maybe saving $100 in the short term, but costing yourself alot more in the long term if that tire blows and you hit another competitor or the wall ...

Re: The Glen National

Many full course cautions????......What a surprise!!!... I'm surprised they can get anyone to race at a track that has those rules. I did my driver's school there in 96' and loved the atmosphere, but will not tow 6 hrs. each way to get 5-6 laps of green flag racing! What a shame! Mark P.S.: Congrats...

Re: Low turnouts

Bruce:

How did you handle drivers that arrived from regions that normally didn't use the AR's and were only making
a one time appearance to the track? I assumed you let them race but didn't count them in the points
championship if you had one etc.....Thanks!

Re: Low turnouts

Scott: What agreement &/or rules do you have in place out in the SF Region regarding tires? Also, has the cost of the AR's fluctuated since your move towards them and are there any complaints about the use of those tires? One more question, did you consider other tires before electing to go with...

Re: Low turnouts

Brian: I'm a little confused by your last paragraph? Please expand on what you meant by it. The way I see it and the FST class has confirmed it, is that you can reduce costs by introducing a tire that lasts 15-20 heat cycles rather than a current tire that lasts 6-10 heat cycles and they can race al...

Thanks for the reply. Is the Goodyear 430 the equivalent of the AR's and Hoosier 55's or a harder compound? Also, how many heat
cycles can you get on the AR's if managed properly etc............

Re: Low turnouts

You guys have been busy over the holiday weekend. Since I'm not up on the latest tire specs, can anyone provide
info. on the hardness/ durability of the American racers, Hoosier & Goodyear tires that might be eligible as a
spec tire? Thanks for any input!

Re: Low turnouts

Dean: If most of the National boys don't want a spec tire, but the Regional racers desire it, then why don't we try to implement a regional spec tire. It shouldn't be us vs. them, but all of us unified in an effort to get more drivers in all open wheel cars. The National drivers should encourage a s...

Steve: I apologize for not replying to your email. I don't actually remember getting it but that's not uncommon at my end when you receive 50 emails per day, and as a result you tend to do mass delete's that sometimes erase emails that should be read. My posting on the website wasn't a communist plo...

Re: Low turnouts

Nobody asked but here's my thoughts: (Regional only) 1.) Spec tire using hard American Racer tires or others similiar to the old Goodyear Veerock's of year's past. Part of the attraction to the Formula First class is the reduction in tire cost by using the Club Ford tire which is hard and lasts over...

Re: Low turnouts

Steve: I'm just guessing, but knowing Steve (Deacon Blue's) pretty well, I assume he wouldn't be objectionable to harder tire compounds that last 15-20 heat cycles, for use at regional's only since the National drivers wouldn't go for it. That alone would save money and reduce the annual budget, plu...

Chris & larry:

I wonder how many drivers quit racing because they feel their cars are no longer competitive, so why pay $600- $1000
to race for 5th, 6th , 7th or even last?

Low turnouts

The cause of small FV fields this year are numerous, but I was wondering what specific reason each driver had and do you plan to race more or less in the upcoming years? I think back to only 4-5 years ago, and here in Ohio we had 12-20 cars showing up at Nelson (prior to upgrades), and now they bare...

Re: Fitting in a car

I'm 6'1" and 205 lbs. and have a tight fit in my 95' Citation. It's the lack of room around the front
roll hoop (knee's) than anywhere else. With an aluminum floor, I weigh in around 1037 (+12 lbs.)
over minimum weight and dropped 36 lbs. by removing the steel floor! Thanks!
